Canadian Patient Safety Institute recently released information outlining their new program “Shift to Safety”:
It’s time to SHIFT to Safety!
Are you ready for the next evolution in patient safety and quality improvement?
When it comes to patient safety, there are three big questions everyone should be asking themselves. How do I prevent harm? How can I respond when harm happens? How can I learn from harm that’s already happened?
The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) is answering those questions with an initiative called SHIFT to Safety – the new source for patient safety tools and resources in Canada. Whether you’re a member of the public, a healthcare provider or a healthcare leader, we have tools and resources specifically for you.
We want to help patients and their families advocate for their healthcare safety, we want to help providers prioritize safety when caring for their patients, and we want leaders in healthcare organizations to be able to create a positive patient safety culture. Most importantly, we want everyone working together as a team. After all, improving patient care safety and quality in Canada requires everyone’s involvement.
SHIFT to Safety and all of it’s tools and resources can be found online at SHIFTtoSafety.com. When you visit our mobile friendly site, you’ll be able to filter content based on whether you’re a member of the public, a provider or a leader. This will make it easy to focus on the tools and resources designed with your specific needs in mind.
For example, a member of the public will find downloadable, easy to use resources with the important questions they should be asking their healthcare providers before, during and after their appointments. They’ll also find the Patient Engagement Network, a public, open, and safe space for anyone passionate about patient engagement or patient-centred care.
Healthcare providers and leaders on the other hand, will find a tool that is brand new to Canadian healthcare: Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety, otherwise known as TeamSTEPPS. Developed by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), TeamSTEPPS will improve safety and transform culture in healthcare through better teamwork, communication, leadership, situational awareness and mutual support.
This is just a small sample of what’s online right now, and of what’s to come in the future. A steady flow of new tools and resources are in the works and you can keep up to date on the latest by visiting (and bookmarking) SHIFTtoSafety.com
