Decisions of the Complaints Investigation Committee

The Complaints Investigation Committee of CASLPM is responsible for reviewing and making decisions on complaints submitted to the College. When a complaint results in findings of unprofessional conduct, the Committee may agree to the following outcomes:

    • A caution or reprimand about their unprofessional conduct
    • Mandatory education or training
    • Supervision or monitoring within the registrant’s practice setting
    • Suspension of the registrant’s permit for a specified period
    • Cancellation of a registrant’s Certificate of Practice permit

In addition, the registrant may also be asked to pay all or part of the costs associated with the complaints investigation process.

 

Public Accountability and Censures

The College is committed to transparency and accountability under the Regulated Health Professions Act Section 102(1). In accordance with Section 104(2), the Complaints Investigation Committee may publicly disclose “…the name of the investigated registrant who has been censured and a description of the circumstances that led to the Censure”.

 

Conditions on Registrant Practice

Any conditions placed on a registrant’s practice are posted on the registrant’s license until the requirement is fulfilled, regardless of whether a censure has been issued or posted.

Complaints Investigation Committee Censures

2025

On September 12, 2025, Terry Wiebe, a Registered Audiologist, was formally censured for
referring to himself as “Dr.” and for having testimonials posted and soliciting reviews on the
website of his clinic – Stokes Hearing & Audiology Services.

By referring to himself as “Dr.”, Mr. Wiebe breached subsection 78(1) of The Regulated Health
Professions Act and the College’s Practice Direction: Use of Titles, Credentials, Certification
Designations, and Use of the Title “Doctor”.

By posting testimonials and soliciting reviews on the website, Mr. Wiebe breached section 3.4 of
the College’s Practice Direction: Advertising.

Mr. Wiebe was also ordered to pay $2,500, as part of the costs of the investigation.

 

2024

On July 29, 2024, a Registered Audiologist (the “Member”) was formally censured for referring to themselves as “Dr.” on their clinic’s website and in a patient’s file. By referring to themselves as “Dr.”, the Member breached subsection 78(1) of The Regulated Health Professions Act and the College’s Practice Direction: Use of Titles, Credentials, Certification Designations, and the Use of the Title “Doctor”.

The Member was also ordered to pay the costs of the College’s investigation of the matter ($1,075).

 

Public Notice of Hearing

As per the Regulated Health Professions Act, Section 116(5), public notice of an upcoming inquiry hearing may be posted on the website.

There are no hearings currently scheduled.

Inquiry Panel Decisions

As per the Regulated Health Professions Act, Section 129(1), at the conclusion of an inquiry hearing, the College must make any findings made by the inquiry panel, including the name of the investigated registrant, available to the public, except under certain circumstances.
